Is your site ready for business connectivity?

Run this checklist before you order

Before you order business connectivity for a site, a few checks save time, cost and surprises later. This checklist covers what to confirm first, whether you are connecting a new site, moving, or upgrading an existing one.

The checklist

What to check before you connect a site.

Work through these before you order. If you are not sure on any of them, that is exactly what a good provider should help you with.

  • Know what the site actually needs

List the users, devices, cloud apps and any voice or CCTV, so the connection is sized to real demand rather than a guess.

  • Check what is available at the address

Confirm which connectivity types reach the site: fibre, fixed wireless or 5G. Availability varies a lot by location.

  • Decide dedicated or shared

Work out whether the site needs uncontended, business-grade connectivity, or whether a business broadband service is enough.

  • Plan for resilience

Decide whether the site needs failover, so a single line going down does not take the whole site offline.

  • Confirm the timeline

Some connections need survey and install lead time. Check dates early, especially for a move or a brand-new site.

  • Check the physical install

Confirm where the line enters the building, where the comms room or cabinet is, and whether any cabling or power work is needed.

  • Do not forget the internal network

A fast connection is wasted if the internal Wi-Fi or cabling cannot carry it. Plan coverage and the internal network too.

  • Know who supports it

Confirm who you call when something goes wrong, and what the support and response arrangements actually are.
