Managed Wi-Fi
Surveyed, designed and managed wireless so coverage and capacity match how the space is used.
Learn moreWi-Fi that drops out in half the building?
Most Wi-Fi problems are not fixed by buying another access point and hoping. A proper survey works out what coverage and capacity the space actually needs. This checklist covers what a good Wi-Fi survey looks at, from coverage and device density to interference, cabling and the connection behind it.
The checklist
Use this to sense-check a survey, or to understand what needs looking at before you spend money on more hardware.
Walk the whole space and mark where people need to connect, including corners, stairwells, yards and the areas that are easy to forget.
Users bring several devices each, plus printers, tablets, payment terminals and IoT. Device density drives how many access points you need.
Survey for neighbouring networks and equipment that shares the same airwaves, so channels can be planned around them rather than fighting them.
Decide where access points go for even coverage, allowing for walls, floors and building materials that block or weaken signal.
Each access point needs a cable run and power. Check the structured cabling and that the switches can power the devices you plan to add.
Great Wi-Fi still needs enough capacity behind it. Confirm the internet connection can carry peak demand, not just a quiet moment.
Plan for the busiest moment, such as a full office, an event or a shift change, rather than the quiet average that hides problems.
Carry out a post-install survey to confirm real coverage, speeds and roaming match the plan, and adjust placement where they do not.
If the checklist raises questions, these are the services that usually answer them.
