Learn moreManaged Wi-Fi or do it yourself: which is right for your business?
Plenty of businesses run their own Wi-Fi perfectly well, and plenty are better off having it managed. Neither is the right answer for everyone. Here is an honest look at when doing it yourself makes sense, and when managed Wi-Fi is worth paying for.
Four things do most of the deciding. None of them makes one option the right answer for everyone.
DIY means your team chooses the kit, plans the coverage and sets it up. Managed means we survey the site and design the coverage for you.
With DIY, keeping it running is on you. With managed Wi-Fi it is monitored and supported, so someone else is watching it. Support terms are agreed as part of your service agreement.
DIY usually means lower ongoing fees but more of your own time and the upfront hardware cost. Managed is an ongoing service fee that covers the kit, setup and support. Confirmed on quote.
One site is straightforward to run yourself. Keeping Wi-Fi consistent across several sites is where managed tends to pull ahead.
When it fits
For plenty of businesses, running your own Wi-Fi is genuinely the right, better-value call.
One office or unit with straightforward coverage needs is very manageable in-house.
If someone on your team is comfortable with networking and has time to own it, DIY can work well and cost less.
If a short outage is an inconvenience rather than lost revenue, you can reasonably carry that risk yourself.
Doing it yourself avoids a monthly management fee, which can be the right trade-off when the setup is simple.
When it fits
For other businesses, having Wi-Fi handled is genuinely the smarter fit.
If customers, payments or day-to-day operations stop when Wi-Fi drops, having it monitored and supported is worth it. Support terms are agreed as part of your service agreement.
Managed Wi-Fi keeps coverage, security and configuration consistent across every location. Agreed per estate during design.
If nobody internally wants to own Wi-Fi, handing it over removes the guesswork and the ongoing maintenance.
With managed Wi-Fi, monitoring and fixes are our job, not a distraction from yours. Support terms are agreed as part of your service agreement.
There is no product to buy for the DIY route, that is you and your own kit. If you would rather have it handled, this is the managed option.
